What's PimpMyDock?
Since Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" Apple has introduced a new kind of Dock with two different states: 2D standard view and 3D-Like View. Each of these views can be modified by replacing some resources inside Dock.app itself. PimpMyDock allows you to create and modify easily your Dock appareance by using simple .docktheme files. Each docktheme file contains all resources; just drag it in PimpMyDock and click Apply Theme: PimpMyDocks will do all the job for you! Easily and secure!

If you want you can create yourself a theme, or importing a one from leopardocks.com (PMD allows you to import data from folder and creates automatically a docktheme file). This is a short guide thought the most important features of this app.

Create a new theme
In order to make a new theme click "New Theme" from the toolbar window and choose a new name for it. When you click OK a new theme has been created for you: it contains all standard dock images (as like standard 10.5 Dock style). The main window is divided in two different parts: Images Thumbnails and Selection Info. The left part, Images Thumbs, contains dock images. You can choose to show images for 2D Style or 3D Style using the toolbar "Show Dock Type" popup in toolbar.

In order to change a resource file choose it from the collection, then drag your replacement resource into draggable image area at the right of the window (note: the size should be the same in order to prevents possible errors, PMD alerts you if the size exceed the standard dimensions). Changes are applied and saved automatically. When you have replaced all resoucers just quit or click "Apply Theme" to see your theme in action.

If you want to edit a resource into the current theme select it from the collection and click "Edit In..." (if you haven't used it before you will be prompted to choose an external graphic editor as like Photoshop). When you have finished to edit the image just click save from your editor, come back to PMD and press Command-R ("Refresh Thumbs" in Edit Menu) to reload the resources list.

You can also see a resizable view of your selection by choosing your resource and pressing Command-I (and HUD window will appear).

Open a docktheme file
To open a docktheme file just double click it or choose "Open Theme" from main window toolbar. The list of images will appear into the thumbs collection.

Apply a theme
To apply a theme, just open it and click "Apply Theme" from main window toolbar. You will prompted for your account password because you need of administrator privilegies in order to change resources for a System Resource (without privilegies you can't apply dockthemes).

Backup your current dock
If you want to backup your current dock just choose "Backup Current Dock" from File menu and choose a name and a save location. PMD will create a docktheme file in a moment for you.

How to import resources folder (as like for www.leoparddocks.com)
You can found in internet thirdy party resources for your dock. Without PMD you still need to change manually these resources: PMD allows you to create a docktheme package starting from these resources

(NOTE: in order to create a valid theme resources folder files must be with the same name of the original dock.app files, otherwise they will be ignored).

To import and create a new theme from a folder just choose "Generate Theme From Folder" from File Menu and choose a new name for your imported theme. And voilĂ , you have a docktheme package to share with friends!

Change docktheme informations
You can distribuite your docktheme file around the web with your information in it. Just click Command-Shift-I when you have opened your theme: a new sheet will be opened. Now you can add your website and your name and drag a png preview image for your Dock both in 2D and 3D style.

Restore your default dock
To revert your dock to the original factory settings just click "Revert To Original" from File Menu.

Batch Converter
Batch converter allows you to convert multiple themes folders in .docktheme format. To start a conversion choose a source folder then press Start to select a destination and start queue; be sure your subfolders with themes contains images only in root level and not inside an hierarchical structure (PMD will alert you); nested files will be not used to create a theme.
